Summer 2008 Budding Brunels

The Budding Brunels projected was piloted earlier this year in two schools in East London.  The vision for the project was to develop a new model to inform young people aged 16-17 about the career opportunities available within building and engineering.

The objectives for the pilot were

  • to work with at least 6 pupils from 2 schools
  • both schools were to be from East London, with 1 from an Olympic borough
  • to meet once a week for 1-2 hour sessions
  • participants to take part in a number of activities including visits, talks from young graduates and classroom activities exploring building and engineering principles

The programme was a colloborative effort between CIOB, ICE London, Construction Skills, Jacobs, Jane Wernick and Associates, Mace & WSP Group.

The participating schools were St Angela's & St Bonaventure's Joint Sixth Form and Mulbery School for Girls.
